Cyclone Montha: Powerful Storm Brewing Over Bay of Bengal – Weather Update and Safety Advisory

The Bay of Bengal has once again turned turbulent as Cyclone Montha strengthens and moves toward the eastern coast of India. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Montha is expected to make landfall between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam (near Kakinada) in Andhra Pradesh on October 28, 2025, during the evening or night hours. With wind speeds likely to touch 90–100 km/h, and gusts up to 110 km/h, the storm is being closely monitored by weather authorities and disaster management teams.
At present, Montha has already brought heavy rains and strong winds to coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry, with more intense conditions forecast in the coming hours. The sea has turned rough, prompting authorities to ban fishing activities and advise fishermen not to venture into the Bay of Bengal. Coastal residents have been urged to move to safer locations, while schools in several districts have been closed as a precautionary measure.
The IMD has issued red and orange alerts for multiple districts, predicting very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, particularly along the coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam regions. Neighboring states like Telangana, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh may also experience widespread rainfall and thunderstorms from October 27–30. With the potential for flooding, storm surges, and landslides, local authorities are actively preparing relief measures and evacuation plans.
For residents in the affected areas, it’s important to stay indoors, keep emergency essentials like food, water, flashlights, and medicines ready, and follow official updates. Avoid coastal zones, low-lying regions, and unnecessary travel until the situation improves.
Cyclone Montha reminds us once again of nature’s power and unpredictability. While the authorities work tirelessly to minimize damage, public cooperation and preparedness are equally vital to stay safe. Stay alert, stay informed, and stay safe as Montha passes through the Indian coastline.
